  • I have received our invitation to participate in the Saint Patrick's Day Parade.  A copy of the invitation is attached.  Please reserve March 13 for the parade & festivities.  Our appearance will honor the memory of Joe Tommaney, who led Miatas in this parade since 1990.  This will also be my last parade as chairman.

Keep in touch here for further updates.  Julia & I will NOT be at our February meeting (we'll be in NOLA for Mardi Gras )  The parade will be on Saturday following our March meeting.

Notice that proof of vehicle insurance will be required.

    ================================================================================

    Dear Parade Participant:
We hope you have a wonderfulholiday time with family and friends.  Weconsider our parade participants as part of our Irish Family.  We feel that family is the most important thing.  With that being said, we would like you toparticipate in the 2010 Houston  St. Patrick’s Parade.
The 2010 St. Patrick’s Paradewill be held on Saturday, March 13 at Minute Maid Park.  The parade will begin at 12:00 noon.  This year’s parade theme is:  Celebrating the Irish Family.   We are so excited that our Grand Marshals areone of Houston’sgreatest Irish families, David, Billie and Mike Carr.  The Carr Brother have been affiliated withHouston Irish events for many years. During the past year, we also lost several members of our Irish familyand we will be dedicating the parade to The Bold Michael Davitt, TammyMcQuillen and Arthur Gordon Mason.
We are so proud that many of our participants have been in the paradefor many years and have passed this tradition down to future generations.   In the past few years, the parade hasexperienced rising city fees and insurance costs.  We have tried not to pass these costs on toour parade entries, but unfortunately, we must increase our parade fees thisyear.  You will get an application withthe new fees on it.  Also, all driversmust bring proof of automobile insurance and all animal entries must send acopy of their insurance along with their parade application.
We are also extremely proud foryou to visit our new website @ www.hsppc.org.  There is a lot of useful information alongwith parade applications on the website.
We look forward to seeing you on March 13, 2010 as we paint Houston green for the 51st time.

I will try to make it this year. My parents have shown interest in driving one of my cars (probably Juno since my father loves that one more) in the parade if my father has the day off.

Let's just hope we don't have any rain like last year.

This Saturday, March 13th is the St. Patrick's Parade.

The parade committee has asked us to assemble on Hamilton St., between Preston and Congress.  This is on the East side of MinuteMaid park.  I suspect we will actually be in the parking lot under the 59 viaduct.  We will meet at 10:00 AM to decorate our cars for the parade starting at Noon.  Check details here: http://www.hsppc.org/
We are entry #106.

I have offered sacrifices & burnt offerings to the Miata Gods.  They are forecasting partly cloudy... high in the seventies ... only 10% chance of rain.

Let's have a large turnout!  DON'T FORGET TO BRING A COPY OF YOUR VEHICLE INSURANCE!

I received the official packet for St. Patrick's Parade in today's mail.  Here are a few changes & rules you need to be aware of.

Our Section is D.  We are entry #86.  We must be in place by 10:30 AM.

If you wish to use "throws" or giveaways, you must have someone walking to do it.  Do not allow spectators to enter the parade route.

Each car must file a completed certificate of responsibility and show proof of insurance.  (I'll have the certificates available at our meeting on Friday if you wish to get a head start on the paperwork)

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Odds are in favor of me showing up. I plan to bring Juno if the CEL stays out since my problem could've been only a bad tank of gasoline.

Yahoo weather on my iPhone indicates a sunny day Saturday.  :D  Let's hope he's/she's right and it holds out!

That was a VERY nice turnout! And I had a very good time, this was my first ever parade!  :D

On the downside, I think it did take a couple of years of life off of my clutch, but other than that, it was great!
It was also great getting the opportunity to visit and talk to everyone after wards at dinner at Babba Yegas (I was shocked that other people knew that place existed!)

Overall, another awesome Miata club event!
Those who didn't make it this year most certainly should come out for the one next year!

I agree with Jeff that it was a great turnout! We had a lot of fun and enjoyed seeing those that participated. I had the most fun with the little kids. They looked stunned when this crazy car wink its big barn door eyes at them. Sometimes it pays to drive an NA. Thanks Jack for hosting an awesome Miata club event! If you missed this year you should definitely plan to make next year!

Did anyone take any pics? I need to experience this one vicariously since I had other obligations.

Nevermind, I just found them.  8)
